RTVE San Cugat is the Catalonian arm of Spanish Radio and Television Corporation (RTVE), the Spanish national broadcaster with a presence in 17 regions across the country. Using Avid tools and solutions from capture to broadcast, RTVE Catalunya produces high-quality news content for all seven RTVE channels and manages Teledeporte, a 24-hour sports channel.

Recently, RTVE upgraded its production workflow with Avid Maestro | Designer for faster, more creative graphics conception, including true HD. The powerful graphics solution gives the RTVE Catalunya team the ability to create captivating, real-time graphics without the need for pre-rendering content, scripting, or programming.

Creative power

RTVE recognized the growing significance of advanced graphics capabilities and the short- and long-term business benefits they can bring. “I think graphics are an increasingly important element in the context and explanation of a message,” said Ignacio Javier Victoria, content manager at RTVE. “It helps keep people on your broadcast, and with your program because what you’re offering them is more attractive and more modern. Without Avid, we wouldn’t be able to take production forward.”

At the core, graphics workflows center on creative power, speed and efficiency. With Maestro | Designer, designers and journalists have the tools to develop more complex and attractive graphics at their fingertips, which translates into more compelling programming for viewers. Titles, results, character labeling and subtitling are all achieved with the Maestro real-time graphics generator. But that’s not all.

With Maestro | Designer’s modern and Intuitive interface, RTVE Catalunya can create and match the perfect graphic to a given story, then use it as a template that can be updated dynamically multiple times throughout a production. Graphics can even be updated automatically as information changes, ideal for representing real-time news events, changing sports scores, and up-to-the-minute weather updates.
